Flow Direction: Most U.S. Solid valves are unidirectional, meaning they are designed to flow in one direction only, as indicated by the arrow on the valve. If connected in the opposite direction, the valve will not actuate properly (will not close for normally closed valves). It is essential to ensure that the medium passing through the valve is filtered, as particles can cling to the gasket over time, leading to improper sealing.

Threading: U.S. Solid valves follow national standards for pipe thread. It is recommended to use Teflon tape to ensure a tight seal on the NPT threading.

Overheating: These valves should be energized for less than 8 hours, as the coils are in a contained area and can burn out if energized for too long. A computer fan may be used to keep the coil cool if the valve needs to be energized continuously for extended periods.

Polarity: For valves with 2 wires, the valve will actuate regardless of which terminal each wire is connected to (+ or -). Some units include a ground wire, and it is essential to ensure the valve is properly grounded in such cases.

Gasoline and Pressure Warning: NBR gaskets should not be used with gasoline, kerosene, or other petroleum products. If your valve requires contact with these substances, opt for one with a VITON gasket. All solenoid valves need some pressure to actuate, especially pilot or indirectly operated valves.
